St. Patricks Day and Kentucky Pictures

So here they are the pictures you all have been waiting for. We will start with St. Patrick's Day.

Nataly and Caro came by to say goodbye before they went out to PARTY!

The night had not even started and these two were trying to eat each other...lol

Look it is me!

I knew that we were in trouble when this was the sign that greeted us in Atlanta...LOL!

We made it there with no problems.

The cool thing about Kentucky is that they have cool signs like this one all over talking about their history.
This is fourth street live where all the bars and hot clubs are at, they are not kidding about the street being closed and the party being open.

They have cool art work like this EVERYWHERE.

We went to the Louisville Slugger Museum. Which is one of the reason why Louisville is famous for.

Where we were able to get up close and personal with memorabila like this. Which is Yogi's old bat.

They are also famous for the Kentucky Derby.

On our last day there we went to the Muhammad Ali Center.
If you ever go to Kentucky, I suggest that you go the Muhammad Ali center. It was AMAZING.

The Ali Center from outside.

We were able to see old fights of The Greatest.

To end this post here is a picture of his most famous saying "Float like a butterfly, Sting like a bee."

And that was my trip to Kentucky, which was actually really cool. I had a good time and learned alot. See Dez I did post them :)

Going to Kentucky

Caro: "Did you just say you are going to Kentucky?"
Karla: " Ah ha"
Caro: " What?, Why?"
Karla: " For work."
Caro: " How long are you going to be there?"
Karla: " Four days."
Caro: " Damn"

Yup that is right I am going to Louisville, Kentucky I will be there till Tuesday night. I have a conference out there which should be a lot of fun. I am kind of excited to go because i love to travel and see new places. My co-worker is coming with me, so at least i will have someone to hang out with while i am there.

To end this post i wanted to share this image with you. I usually don't post political items on here but this one is funny.

Where did you go?

So a few days ago I am running down my blog roll reading all of my dear blogger friends blogs when.... *GASP* Tannia's blog is GONE! Yes, GONE, I tell you i check a few times and it is still missing. I know she said that she was thinking about no longer blogging but she did not mention anything about taking down her blog. Then just as i was adjusting to a blogging life without Tannia, Shelley blog disappears as well. WHAT IN THE WORLD IS GOING ON HERE? Where is everyone going?

Does anyone else other then me ever wonder what happens to your blog friends once they are gone? I sit here and think " I wonder how that turned out" or " Are they getting married?" just random questions that pop into my head. I know it is hard to put yourself out here for million of people to see but i think it is an honor when someone lets you in to their life and shares a piece of themselves with you. Does that make sense?

No i am not drinking! or on drugs!

O.k before i go i just want to say Shelley and Tannia come back!! or stop by and say "Hi" let us know you are ok. I miss you guys.

Way back in January I told you guys about some changes that I had to make in my life. Well I have been working hard on those changes and January was a good month for me. February sucked,to put it simply. Now here we are in March and after some hard work I am back on track. I am going to do all that I can to stay on track. I am sorry for the lack of post but umm my life is boring.

Baby Karla

Yes, I am alive and i actually wrote a entry to post but i am being lazy. So instead of my wonderful post you guys get some just as wonderful baby pic's of who else me.

I know, I have a BIG head and my mom had to show off my big bald head by clipping a hair clip on my big bald head. Besides that my dress is fierce and did you see those shoes? So hot. I will also like to point out my then blue eyes. Do you see that people? they have been "light" since I was very little.

Damn, i look good for being a few hours old. Do you guys see how i rock the mohawk at 1 day old. Do you see that? Look at that pose. I love the camera. I had dreams of being a supermodel since then. I'm still working on them.

Union Avenue Historic District.

HARP River Walk.

The weather was really nice down there. That is why that lady is wearing shorts, in February!

The sign as you enter the city. I have no idea why Pueblo is the home of heroes, if anyone does please let me know.
South Pueblo Street Gallery, this place was really cool because there was a ton of cool art all over the place.

Martin Luther King Museum

Did You See?

Did You see my honey Daddy Yankee on the cover of Latina Magazine?

If the answer to that question is no then, umm you need to get on it and check it. I will warn you that there are some VERY sexy pictures of him in there and also that he is taken. I claimed him a LONG time ago.

Also there was a really good article about him in New York Time Magazine last week.

I will try to find a copy of the article and the cover so that i can share it with you guys.

Until then go out and buy a copy of Latina Magazine.

Step into the freezer

No matter where you live in Colorado, walking outside today will not be pleasant.

Why you might ask because it is FREEZING cold outside. After MONTHS of warmer then normal weather, mother nature decides it is finally time to give us a little snow.

This morning a thin glaze of precipitation was on the ground which just made everything look dusty and unclean when you combine it with the slush that was left over from yesterday.

It is suppose to keep snowing like this until Tuesday. I can’t complain about it really we have been having really nice weather lately and yes I am aware of the fact that I live in COLORADO, all I am saying is that I had forgotten just how cold it can get out here. So while you are out and about today people remember to bundle up.

They are REAL!

Karla is working in the staff work room making copies when co-worker comes in. Co-worker and Karla talk for while and then this happens.

Co-worker: "OMG, you have green eyes!"
Karla: "Ah ha"
Co-worker: "Wow, they are beautiful and so green."
Karla: "Thanks."
Co-worker: "Wow, they are so beautiful."
Karla: "Uh, Thanks."
Co-worker: "Are they real?"
Karla: "What?"
Co-worker:" Your eyes are they real? Is that your natural eye color?"
Karla: "Yeah."
Co-worker: "Don't you wear contacts?"
Karla: "Yeah."

After I explain to my co-worker that I am blind and I need my contacts to see but that my eyes are naturally green, she still did not believe me so I ended up taking out my contact just to prove to her that my eyes are in fact GREEN.

A few days later Karla is in the office waiting for her boss when she feels someone run their hands through her hair.

Karla (turning around): "What the?"

Co-worker: "Oh I am sorry; it is just that you have such beautiful hair."

Karla: "Thanks."

Co-worker: "It’s so long and shiny and thick and black."

Karla: "Ah ha"

Co-worker:" Is this your natural hair or a piece?"

Karla: "umm no it is my natural hair."

Co-worker: "Really, because it looks like doll hair."

Again Karla has to explain that her hair is bueno her hair. The ironic thing about this in counter is that Caro told me the same thing about my hair about two months ago.

Caro: "Girl, you hair is so shiny."

Karla: "Umm it is?"

Caro: "Yeah it looks like doll hair."

Karla: "No it doesn’t."

I guess Caro was right, which by the way she told me “See I told you so.” When I told her about this incident. After my co-worker ran her hands through my hair the rest of the staff felt free to do the same which means that Karla now wears her hair up ALL the time.

I dont know why everyone thinks that my eyes, hair, boobs and butt are fake but they are not. It has gotten so bad that i need to carry my baby pictures with me.

In fact I just wanted to make one FINAL statement that my hair, eyes, butt and boobs are REAL. So now please stop asking me where I get my hair done, where i get my contacts and who my plastic surgeon is. Thanks!

El Papi Chulo List Part 4

Yes, I know i said "coming soon" and it has not been soon enough but here it is (FINALLY!) El Papi Chulo List Part 4. Enjoy!
Daniel Sunjata
Everyone should take a second right now and say "Thanks Shelley" for it was through her blog that i found este papi. Daniel here is on "Rescue Me" and he has been in a few movies like "Brother to Brother". I thought he would be a very nice way to start off the list.

Juanes
Ok, I know what you are think. " What?, Really Karla? I mean really?" and YES i think Juanes here is un papi chulo. He has the whole bad boy rocker thing going for him and i for one LOVE it.

Antonio Banderas
What can i say he's un papi.

Rob Thomas
Rob is not really my type, pero Caro loves him and i could NEVER figure out why. That was until the other day when i saw an interview with him and by the end of it i was saying " aww. now i see why she loves him"

Jake Gyllenhaal
Go see "Jarhead" and it will all make sense.

Laz Alonso
Here is one more reason why you should see "Jarhead" este papi cubano is also in it.

Eduardo Verastugi
So "Chasing Papi" wasn't the best movie, but that has nothing to do with the fact que este tipo es un papi.
ChanningTatum
I sat through all of "Coach Carter" going "damn y este papi, who is he?" Thanks to Google i found out who he is. Channing here also did some modeling for Abercrombie & Fitch, Nautica, Gap, Aeropostale, Emporio Armani, and can also be seen in the upcoming movie "Havoc".

Kamar De Los Reyes
I know some of you are going "who is that?" Kamar here is a soap star. Soap as in " One life to live" where he has been heating up the small screen for some time now. My sister Elisa LOVES him, and that is the only reason why 1. I know who he is and 2 she watches "One life to live".

Wilson Jermaine Heredia
No, i am not obsessed with this "Rent" cutie. It is not my fault that he is a papi.

Tyson Beckford
If i need to explain why Tyson is on here then umm we need to talk.

George Clooney
George is the older version of El papi chulo. No, Caro i am not stealing your Martini Man.

Gael Garcia Bernal
Ay Gael, Gael, Gael. Just look at him and you know why he is on the list.

Nick Lachey
I don't know what Jessica was thinking this man is HOT!

Mario Lopez
I use to love him way back in the days of "Save by the Bell".

Kerr Smith
I am going to be honest with you here, I have NO idea who he is but damn does he look good in that suit.

Chris Evans
If you saw the "Fantastic Four" then Chris here will be familiar to you.

John Leguizamo
John here is on this list because he cracks me up and any man who can rock a wig and heels like John did in " To Wong Foo Thanks For Everything, Julie Newmar" deserves to be on this list.

Eduardo Xol
I am a HUGE "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" fan, so Eduardo is on here not only because he is HOT but because he is part of that show.

Boris Kodjoe
Ay, just look at him, those lips, that smile. (sight) Ay dios i need a break.

Ok i am back......

No, i am not hold on.

Ok back...let's continue with the list.

Patrick Dempsey
McDreamy he is.

Ryan Phillipe
Este mango me lo como verde, maduro como caiga.

Blair Underwood
I dont even know where to start.

So, here is a new section to El Papi Chulo list it is titled "Que Lindo" (How Cute) because this kid is just soooooo cute.

Wilson from Mad Hot Ballroom
By the way Mad Hot Ballroom is a GREAT movie and if you have not seen it you need to get on it and rent this movie. You are going to love it. Anyways back to the list, Wilson here is soooo cute not only does he have the MOST beautiful eyes i have ever seen but the boy can dance.

So that is the list for this time. Believe it or not there are still papi's left for a part 5 but we are going to have to wait on that one.

I do ask for you to PLEASE be patient with me, with all these papi's around i find myself having to take breaks more often than usual other wise i dont think i would make it :) So keep your eyes open for the next installment.

Last Nights Dream

I know that this is not going to make sense to anyone but Caro and Gabe but here you go. This morning I woke up laughing from a dream I had. Now normally I am not the type of person who remembers their dreams but I remembered this one clearly.

Fast forward to the future, where we see Karla cooking in her kitchen when one of her children comes in.

Child: “ Ma”

Karla: “ Yeah”

Child: “ Ma, could I ask you something?”

Karla: “ Ah ha go ahead”

Child: “ Mami, why do you hate me?”

Karla: “ Que?”

Child: “ Why do you hate me?”

Karla: “ Baby, I don’t hate you. Why do you think that?”

Child: “Umm, because you picked a crazy women to be my nina”

Karla: “ First of all don’t call your nina crazy, and second of all what in the world are you talking about?”

Child: "Ay, look”

Child points to Caro dancing in the living room.

Karla: “ Ha, Ha, oh man that is funny, your nina is in no way crazy because she is dancing by herself.”

Child:” Uh, Ma there is no MUSIC.”

Karla: “ So”

Child: “ So she is CRAZY.”

At this point Karla’s second child walks in.

Child 2: “Mami, she is doing it again.”

Karla: “ Who is doing what again?”

Child 2: “ Nina Nataly, she is flirting with my friends again.”

Karla:” Ay dios mio.”

Karla: “ NATALY”

Nataly: “ WHAT?”

Karla: “ Get away from that child.”

Nataly: “I wasn’t doing anything?”

Karla: “ Ah ha, I am sure you weren’t just get away from the child.”

Nataly: “ Fine”

Child 2: “ Umm, what are you and mom talking about?”

Child 1: “ How my nina is crazy”

Karla: “ She is not crazy, now get out of here both of you I have to finish cooking.”

Child 1 and 2 ignore Karla and keep talking.

Child 2: “ Dude, your nina is not crazy I mean just look at mines.”

Child 1: “ No man, my nina is crazy, I mean just look.”

Child 1 points to Caro who is still dancing in the living room by herself with no music.

Child 2: “ Umm, wow ok you win she is crazy”

Child 1: “ You see I told you.”

Child 2: “ Why is she wearing a fur coat?”

Child 1 : “ Because she is phucing crazy.”

Child 2: “ Oh, and what is up with the shiny shoes?”

The Wind of Change...

...is blowing and i can't keep ignoring it. There are a few changes that i need to make in my life. I should have made them a long time ago, but out of fear and because i did not want to let go of certain people i decided to ignore the signs that kept telling me it was time.

I wish i could make these changes without having to let go of some people, but i need to make them. I need to stop interfering with my life and just let what is suppose to happen, happen.

I can't no longer keep putting my life on hold for other people.

I once saw a sign in a car shop ( yeah i know out of all place a car shop) that said " It is never to late to be, the person you might have become." well it is time for me to stop holding my-self back and become the person i am suppose to be.

It's time for me to step into the wind.

This in no way means that i am going to stop blogging.

So Long 2005, Hello 2006!

Hey there strangers! Hows it going? Things have been going ok over here. Christmas came and went. I had a good time, ate too much, danced a lot, laughed and enjoyed the holiday. Caro has pic's up on her blog so go check them out.

I am a little pissed at Santa, I asked for Daddy Yankee this year and umm i did not get him. I think Santa got lost on the way to my house. :)

We went up to Vail for our traditional after Christmas trip. Had a lot of fun ran in to Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake at Los Amigos. Cameron is very nice and even waved and said " hi" to the 18 dominican people around her. We then went up to Avon. OMG i did not think that i could love a place more then i love Vail but Avon is winner. When my aunt said we were going to Avon i was expecting to be attacked by women with lipsticks and blush, but that was not the case. It sooooo beautiful up there.

I have been enjoying my two week vacation from work but i am ready to go back to work. I know, i never thought i would say that but i am. I am starting to get a little bored of being home.

New Years was fun a little more low key then Christmas but it was still fun.

In a way i am glad that 2005 is over. It was an ok year not as bad as 2004 but not the best. I do have to be thankful for 2005 because during that year I learned a lot not only about myself but also about my family and people in general and i am grateful for those lessons that i learned.

Best quote from 2005 goes to my tia Margarita and her husband Bill:

Maga: " The cop's don't deserve to know everthing because there are thing and then there are THINGS, if you can handle it on your own then handle it." We were talking about drunk drivers.

Bill: " The best way to lose weight is to get salmonella, you lose like 10 lbs in a month."
On his weight lost plan for after the holidays.

Yes, my aunt and uncle are CRAZY.

Mark your calanders, January17 is the one year anniversary of Real Women Have Curves, I am going to have together with Reese to plan the party :)

Also to start 2006 out with a bang i have a profile pic....Red from Fraggle Rock!

Bueno I hope everone enjoyed their holiday's and I hope that 2006 bring all of you many good things.

Oh and i did not foget you ladies during the holidays and i even got you a gift. Here it is a pic of my cousin Javi in Iraq. Enjoy!

May I Recommend: Movie, Music and Book Edition

Yeah so this is a three in one i have been meaning to update this thing but life has other plans for me so right now i have a few minutes to update so here we go.

Ok first up the movies:

About two weeks ago I went to see Rent with Nataly (Yes, Nataly and Caro are my movie watching buddies) and I LOVED it, if you have not gone to see it, I suggest you go before this movie leaves the theater. This movie stayed close to the original Broadway production. Just about all of the original Broadway cast was casted for the movie with the exception of Rosario Dawson as Mimi and Tracie Thomas as Joanne.

I was crying by the end of this movie for reasons that I can not discuss in this review because it will ruin the movie. So you have to go and see it to see why I was crying.

All of the actors did a fabulous job they all played their parts so well but one actor stood out to me over the rest. This particular actor in my opinion STOLE just about every scene he was in so when I got home I did some research (thanks Google) and found out that this talented and guapo actor is DOMINICAN that is right.

Who am I talking about no other then Wilson Jermaine Heredia who plays Angel. Wilson won a Tony in 1996 for his role as Angel in the orginal Broadway production. How cool is that. In an interview that i read about him, he was talking about how he is straight, but everyone thinks he is gay because of his role as Angel. I can see how that would happen homeboy rocked this role.

So in conclusion go see Rent. While you are at the mvoies you might want to check out....

The Family Stone. I saw this movie with Caro last week. First of all I want to say that I LOVE this poster. Again I LOVED this movie it was surprisingly really good a little predictable at times but good. A fair warning fan of Sex and the City, SJP's character here is nothing like Carrie. You end up hating her in the beginning of the movie which is refreshing because we are all use to loving her.

So if you have seen the trailer then you know that this movie is about a son Everett Stone played by Dermot Mulroney who brings home his girlfriend for the holiday and bueno everything just goes wrong. I loved Diane Keaton as the mom who blended humor and heartbreak, and honors the film with a grace that makes it stick in the memory. I ended up wishing I had a mom like her.

Rachel McAdams (who I love) rocked her role as Amy, Everett's younger sister who thinks that Meredith (SJP) is a bitch.
Luke Wilson also rocked his role as Ben, Everett slacker brother. I also love that the Stones have a gay son who is also deaf played by Ty Giordano, and that through out the movie the characters used sign language. I think the reason why I ended up loving this movie so much was because it reminded me of my family so much. So go check this movie out as well.

Ok now for the music:

Shaki is my girl. I am a HUGE Shakira fan and you know I had to pick this one up the day it came out and am I glad I did.

I love this cd it is classic Shakira. Some people don't like her in English because they think she is "selling out" and others might think that two cd's in one year might be one to many but I have to disagree. Yes there are no huge dance song like this summers smash hit La Tortura off Fijacion Oral Vol. 1 on this cd, but just listen to the lyrics of songs like Don't Bother and tell me that it is not a great "angry chick song". Actually Don't Bother is one of my favorite songs off this cd. I have to admit to being jealous of Shakira's songwriting ability's. I love this line from Don't Bother;
" She's almost 6 feet tall/ She must think I'm a flea/I'm really a cat you see/And it's not my last life at all."

Other good song off this cd is Illegal ft Carlos Santana. This song might bring some comparison to Alanis Morrissette's You Ought to Know but then again Shaki has been compared to Alanis since her third CD Dónde Están Los Ladrones? Anyways Illegal is a great song for any women who has had her heartbroken with lyrics like " You don't even know the meaning of the words "I'm sorry"/ You said you would love me until you die/And as far as I know you're still alive, baby/You don't even know the meaning of the words "I'm sorry"/I'm starting to believe it should be illegal to deceive a woman's heart." Some other good songs are Dreams for Plans; Costume Makes the Clown, and Timor.

Now for the book:

Way back in the day when I was part of the sucias there was a new and young writer on there named Liz De Jesus. Liz was way cool and wrote amazing poetry. Which she use to share with us. Now I don't know if Liz is still a part of la sucias last time I checked she had not posted for a looooong time. Anyways Liz wrote a little book titled Note to Self. So being a good sucias I ordered a copy because that is what we do support each other. Well it took Borders a million years to get my copy to me but when they finally did I sat down to read it.

The finally result is....I liked it there a few mistakes in the book which I took to be an editing mistake but the more I read, and the more I got to know and love the main character Sam I started to think that maybe the mistakes where made or even left there on purpose. Seeing as Sam is not a perfect person.

Sam is a Puerto Rican woman who is recovering from a broken heart and bueno basically she hates life or at least is disappointed by it. I do have to say that this book cracked me up at time's because Sam reminds me of me. Anyone can related to Sam and her views on life and you will be cheering for her at the end of the book and there is even a point where you are going “Ay, mujer get a grip" but in a good way. If Sam does not remind you of yourself, well then we all know someone like her.

Sunset

People are just as wonderful as sunsets if I can let them be. I don't try to control a sunset. I watch it with awe as it unfolds, and I like myself best when appreciating the unfolding of a life.

-Carl R. Rogers

That quote right there summories all the reasons why i teach.

Confidential

I still love my new job which by now is not really all that new. I still love everything about it.

I love walking in to a classroom and hearing 16 pre-schoolers say " Miss Karlina" as four or five of them run up to hug me. I love sitting down with them and just hearing them tell me stories. I love all the art work they make for me (which now proudly hangs in my office). I love that when they draw a picture of me, my arms and legs come out of my head (everytime i look at that i laugh). I love the look on their face when they finally "get" a something or write their name for the first time.

I love walking in to the baby room and just hanging out in there. The baby room is my hide out spot when everything gets to be too much. It is amazing what holding a baby can do.

I love walking in to the parent room and have 4 or 5 moms come over to me and offer me food. They are always trying to feed me. I love sitting in there with them and just hanging out.

I love the fact that even after working all day the dads still all show up every Monday night for class, earger and willing to learn.

I love my staff, i have an amazing, hard working, dedicated staff and i am very grateful for them. I love my boss, she really is the coolest boss i have ever had.

Like i said i love everything about my job even all the paperwork and the long hours. What i do not love is the hard, heart-breaking confidential stuff that brings me to my knees in a flood of tears. I wish i could tell you about it but i can't. I can not tell you the number of times that i have had to leave a meeting or walk out of the parent room in a hurry and lock myself in my office and just cry.

I can not believe that there really is this much injustice in this world. I know that no one said that life is fair but these families have been through so much they need a break. It breaks my heart that all i can do is offer them a hug and an ear to listen. I wish i could do more to help. Since our program is a little different then most school programs we are able to do more then most program but i still wish we can do more. I know there is only so much we can do but still i wish could do more.

The holidays are suppose to be a time for celebration but all i find myself doing is crying. I have be come an emotional wreck who barley sleeps. I find myself waking up at night worring or think about one of my families wishing i could do more. This is the problem with being a teacher no matter how hard you try you always become attach not just to the kids but to their whole family and after a little while they become your family as well and we all know how i feel about my family.

I know what you guys are thinking "now Karla you have done all you can" and" you can't save everyone". I know this and i am remind of this everytime i see these parents i am amazed by their strenght, even though their lives are falling apart and some really horrable stuff is going on i am amazed with the fact that they still come in to school everyday with a smile on their face.

I know that this is Caro's thing but still i think it fits: love is finding the courage to keep living.

Well now that i made everyone all sad and worried i hope you all have a good weekend.
